A Multiband Microwave Photonic Filter Based on a Strongly Coupled Microring Resonator With Adjustable Bandwidth

A bandwidth-tunable multiband microwave photonic filter (MPF) using a strongly coupled microring resonator (MRR) with optical phase modulation is demonstrated theoretically and experimentally. Two notches of the MRR adjacent to carrier break intrinsic balance phase-modulated signal then two sub-MPFs are formed thanks conversion from intensity (PM-IM). The frequency responses superimposed form passband fixed center frequency. Due periodicity transmission spectrum, multiple passbands separated by certain spacing appear in domain combine MPF, whose bandwidth can be adjusted tuning wavelength carrier. tunable shape factors ranging 0.73 GHz 2.73 5.06 1.38 experimentally performed. number reconfigured. proposed MPF has potential employed modern multi-standard wireless communication systems.
